Hello, my name is Belle Hadiwidjaja and I am a Freelance Front-end Developer & Web Designer based in Melbourne, Australia.
Why should you use me?
- I design & build standard-compliant, user centered websites
- I breathe HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery
- I prioritise accessibilty and usability
- I know the quirks of cross-browser compatibility
Background, Education & Experience
I am a Melbourne based freelance front-end developer & designer with over seven years commercial experience.
In 2004 I graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia, and Master of Arts in Animation). Since then, I pursued my career as a Web Designer and Front End Developer at Digital Bridge and Stomp Entertainment. My experience with web projects ranges from brochure sites, email marketing campaigns, mobile sites, to international e-commerce sites.
In late 2011 I decided to take on a new challenge and become a freelancer.
I can help with various tasks like:
- Converting PSD to HTML5 (front-end build)
- CMS theme integration (Wordpress, Silverstripe, Symfony, Zend)
- Responsive layout for mobile devices
- jQuery effects
- Website design
- Cross-browser testing
- Email template design and build
- General website maintenance
I enjoy working with digital agencies - you meet a lot of creative people and there is always so much to learn.
Over the past few months I have had the pleasure to work with the following companies:

100% Pure CSS3 Roller Skate
A CSS3 Exploration
100% hand-coded
+ some simple animation
How is it done?
Using simple technologies such as:
- HTML
- CSS3
- border-radius
- radial-gradient
- linear-gradient
- transform (rotate, skew, scale)
- text-shadow
- box-shadow
- transform-origin
- transition
- Javascript
- jQuery
- .animate()
- .add/removeClass()
- .delay()
- jquery.backgroundPosition (plugin)
The roller skate above is built using HTML and CSS3. I wanted to see how far you can use CSS to draw complex shapes without using a single image.
The addition of some simple jquery animation and a background image completed the scene.
On mobile phones, the CSS3 scale fails to render when object is animated. I have not found a solution for this.
Note:
If you are seeing a very BOXY drawing like the below image, that means your browser is an older version and it does not support CSS3. It's time to upgrade! :)

What is 'Speedy Wasabi #404' ?
Speedy Wasabi is my roller derby name at the Victorian Roller Derby League. 404 is my skater number.
I am part of the home team 'Dead Ringer Rosies’ and travel team ‘Queen Bees’.
Catch me in action at my next bout! :)
